Day Two - Hiroshima

What an amazing day today! The ultimate rich task experience:-)
After we arrived in Hiroshima at 300km an hour, we travelled by local train to the port and then boarded a ferry to the world heritage site on Miyajima Island (google it).

After we travelled back to the mainland we travelled by tram to the Hiroshima Peace Park. It was a very moving experience for us all. We visited the monument and hung our cranes to remember all the children that died as a result of the bomb.

We then moved on to the Memorial Museum which was very interesting. Some quite graphic images which gave the children an up close and personal look at the tragic events that happened on August 6th 1945.

A swift bullet train ride back to Hiroshima and a lovely dinner to finish off the evening.

Lights out and ready for another great day tomorrow in Kyoto.

Bye for now,
Matt

Wow everyone, you look like you are having such an amazing time! Sounds like the aquarium was fun, and Hiroshima was an incredible place to visit. Well done for trying all the new food.
Aidan please stop doing weird eyes in the photos:-)

Hi Guys,
Great to see that you are mastering the use of chopsticks!
I hope you are well rested after what must have been a very emotional day at Hiroshima.
I am looking forward to seeing the photos from Kinkakuji Temple.
Take care,

What a fantastic time you're all having. We are all envious. It must have been something to see a whale shark up close. I hope they had it in a big enough tank! Maybe some of you will be inspired to try and see one of these magnificent creatures in the wild! You seem to be doing a lot of eating over there - there have been lots of photos of you all eating. Good luck meeting all your host families tonight. What an adventure...

Hi there
What a busy time you've been having so far. I loved the look of the bullet train - very stylish. Have been looking at photos of Kinkakuji on the internet but imagine it is even more beautiful in real life. Hope you enjoy your first night with host families. School tomorrow!

Wow your trip so far looks incredible! Absolutely loving the blog updates, it's the most viewed page on my phone and laptop. Have passed the blog on to Jesses cousins who were going to show their classes. Keep having lots of fun, and looking forward to HEAPs of photos on your return. Squish hug for you Jesse. Whoops, wasn't going to embarrass you in front of your mates. Too late! Sons must ALWAYS hug their mums in public. It's the law. xx

Hi everybody,
Well done Matt for all your late night blogging and photos, nice to wake up and look at photos each morning.
Bullet train looks so incredibly aerodynamic, not suprising is goes so fast, must have blown all your hair back!
It seems everybodies feet haven't touched the ground since arriving (only when you're eating!)
Have fun meeting the homestays and going to school...it isn't all holiday!
love Susan x (only 1 kiss for Hugh)

Hi Everyone,
Wow, it looks like you are having such a fantastic time so far.
Don’t forget to buy the teachers an apple (yeah right) or a coke or share some lollies with them (always keeps adults happy that way)
Did you feel like the bullet train was going as fast as it was or did it feel just like an aeroplane?
Maca, lots of great food so far? Found any yummy Japanese lollies to bring home and share? Haha
Anything freaked you out yet or had you rolling on the ground laughing?
Lotsa love and big hugs and kisses
DavidW.
