More fun times at Shinano Junior High School

Today was another action packed day at school. The Japanese teachers have obviously spent a lot of time preparing the activities for us to enjoy. The day started with our students participating in English classes with their Japanese homestays. They played some games and interacted with the Japanese students in English.

After break we had a rare opportunity to participate in a Kendo lesson. Kendo is a traditional Japanese sport that originated in times of the samurai and means "way of the sword." Our students were told a brief history of Kendo and then got dressed in traditional Kendo armour and armed themselves with bamboo swords. They then learned some basic techniques and then proceeded to attack each other!

This afternoon we travelled to a nearby temple for an afternoon of meditation and tea ceremony. The priest of the temple is the host of Sophie Oliver and talked to us about meditation and the meaning behind it. I was able to translate his Japanese perfectly haha!

As we near the end of our Shinano leg of the trip there is still lots of fun to be had.
Stay tuned for more photos.
